Training - key thing
is... don't lose count!
I train a few times a week at my local Esporta - Kingston upon Thames
and
aim for between 400 and 500 lengths a time (25m pool) and at a minimum
300.
Do I get bored?? ummm not really, I spend my time concentrating on
stroke
technique, trying not to go too fast to start with and therefore
whack
myself out later on, and also on not getting too complacent and therefore
too slow. Once I find a good pace, it's really rewarding as you just
glide
through the water with little effort. I also concentrate on not losing
count!!! - I'm strict, if I can only remember being at 182 and actually
it's 192, then I will re-commence counting at 182.
As part of the training I also incorporate essential 'feeds',
these are
every 50 lengths so at about 20 to 30 minute intervals. The breaks
last a
couple of minutes and in this time I drink hydration and energy
drinks and
eat a combination of carbohydrate gels, chocolate, and about half
a
banana. I then get started on the next 50 and so on. So please
don't take
my Mars bars!!!
